Moraes authorizes Bolsonaro’s ultrasound at the PF after defense request

The Minister of the Federal Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes, authorized Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) doctor to perform an ultrasound on the former president. The examination will take place at the Federal Police Superintendence (PF) in Brasilia, where Bolsonaro is imprisoned after being convicted of coup plotting.

The decision – dated Friday 12, but entered into the STF system on the night of Saturday 13 – does not contain the date on which the examination will take place, but Moraes’ order recalls that “visits by the convict’s doctors, duly registered, do not require prior communication, in accordance with legal and judicial provisions.”

Bolsonaro is incarcerated in a superintendence room, where he is serving a prison sentence of 27 years and three months.

The request for examination was made after Moraes determined that Bolsonaro would undergo an official medical examination, which must be carried out by the PF himself, within 15 days.

The lawyers had requested authorization for Doctor Bruno Luís Barbosa Cherulli to enter the PF to carry out the examination with a portable ultrasound device. The procedure will be performed in the right and left inguinal regions.

“It is a non-invasive, rapid procedure, requiring neither sedation nor hospital facilities, and which can be carried out entirely on site, thus ensuring that the corresponding images and reports are immediately made available to the Federal Police to support the expertise already determined by Your Excellency,” the defense clarified.

The defense said the move was necessary to update the former president’s exams. In ordering the exam, Moraes said the exams presented by Bolsonaro to request permission to perform surgery and be placed under house arrest were old.

“The measure aims exclusively to guarantee the current nature of the examinations, a point expressly highlighted in the order, and to facilitate the rapid conclusion of the official examination, without any impact on the established decision-making flow,” added the defense.

Last Tuesday, Bolsonaro’s lawyers said that the former president’s health condition had worsened and requested that he be immediately transported to the DF Star Hospital, in Brasilia, to undergo surgery.
