
THE Brown Universityin Rhode Island, United States, reported this Saturday an active shooting on its campus in the city of Providence, in the state of Rhode Island.
Authorities have not confirmed whether there were any injuries or deaths, but the university said emergency medical services were on scene. WRPI says there is “several victims”, that “several people were shot” and that “news crews at the scene saw clothing and blood on the sidewalk.”
“There is an active shooter nearby Barus & Holley. Brown and Providence police are on scene. Stay safe for now,” the university warned in an alert sent to students.
The university assured in a second message that a suspect had been arrested, but shortly after removed it and rectified it.
“Police have no suspects in custody and continue to search for the suspect(s)“, said.
The study center coordinates with “several law enforcement officers on site.”
“Close the doors, silence the phones and stay hidden until further notice. Remember: RUNIf you are in the affected area, evacuate safely if you can; HIDEIf it is not possible to evacuate, take shelter; STRUGGLEAs a last resort, take steps to protect yourself,” the university added.
The first alert was sent around 5 p.m. local time (11:00 p.m. Spanish Peninsula time).
