With a herd estimated by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) at more than 238 million head of cattle, livestock farming is one of Brazil’s main economic activities. Amid technological advancements, solutions like IaBoi have emerged with the aim of making the product routine easier.
As the name suggests, IaBoi uses artificial intelligence (AI) over WhatsApp, without the need to download another app. The product opens the conversation, speaks or writes, and the AI records, organizes, and transforms what was said or written into structured information, indicators, and data.
Among the key features of the solution are instant recording of events (births, deaths, purchases, sales, transfers and weight of livestock), detailed history by animal, plot or pasture, automatic data integration of productivity indicators and real-time reports and alerts on your cell phone.
Rancher and economist Oberdan Ermita is the creator of IaBoi. He explains that the solution uses simple language that is close to field reality, and does not require technical knowledge from the user. In addition to collecting information, AI provides explanations that help in making decisions.
“While larger companies had access to complex and expensive software, IaBoi was born with a focus on small and medium producers. The main advantage is that it runs directly on WhatsApp, a tool that is already in the hands of almost all livestock farmers. This significantly reduces the learning barrier and avoids the need for training or computers. Management becomes as simple as sending a message, but with the power of AI behind it.” says the creator of IaBoi.
Ermita says the solution came from her own experience in the countryside. He recorded the livestock data on a simple computer, asked an employee how much the equipment cost and what exactly was being done there.
Upon realizing the complexity and effort involved in maintaining basic herd controls, it became clear that management was neither accessible nor practical. From his point of view, this scene showed the distance between the reality of the field and the available tools. “And so the idea was born: to create a solution that is as easy as sending a message on WhatsApp, but capable of organizing records and turning them into intelligent information.” reveals.
Livestock farmers confirm that artificial intelligence does not replace the role of the field professional. Ermita explains that its goal is to act as a support so that veterinarians, animal technicians and technicians have reliable data at hand and the producer can make safer decisions together.
For Kens Fernandes, co-founder and developer of IaBoi and specialist in artificial intelligence applied to business, “With real-time data, producers can make better decisions, reduce losses, increase efficiency and ensure traceability – an increasingly high demand from the market. This enhances the competitiveness of the sector, including export.”
In September, Brazil broke the record for beef sold abroad, Ermita recalls. 352 thousand tons were exported, an increase of 31.1% compared to the same month in 2024, according to data from the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC) compiled by the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec).
As for the future, the startup already has plans to make the technology more complete. “IaBoi’s next steps are to develop along the same lines of simplicity: everything through WhatsApp, without relying on additional equipment. The platform will include more advanced animal husbandry indicators, tools to support nutrition and supplement management, and analytics that will help producers increase productivity in a practical way. The idea is clear: only with reliable data can firm decisions be made, and IaBoi wants to ensure this without complicating field routine.” Fernandez concludes.
