The actor, director and Carnival commentator Haroldo Costa, who died this Saturday (13/12), at the age of 95, began working at TV Globo as director of musicals, in addition to being director of theater programs.
He was responsible for managing names like Dercy Gonçalves, Chacrinha and Moacyr Franco.

Haroldo Costa died at the age of 95 in Rio de Janeiro
As an actor, he made his debut at the Teatro Experimental do Negro, when he performed in the play O Filho Pródigo, by Lucio Cardoso. He was also the protagonist of the play Orfeu da Conceição, establishing himself as the first black actor to perform at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro.
Thanks to the influence of his father, he established himself at the Rio Carnival and was part of the official jury of the parades organized by the Independent League of Samba Schools (Liesa).
“I think that the most correct definition of Brazilians is through Carnival, I firmly believe in it,” he told Memórias Globo.
Haroldo is the author of books that tell the history of Carnival, such as Salgueiro: Academia de Samba (1984), 100 Anos de Carnaval no Rio de Janeiro (2001) and Ernesto Nazareth – Pianeiro do Brasil (2005).

The death of Haroldo Costa was announced by his family on social networks, but without revealing the cause of his death.
“Haroldo Costa’s family is here today to inform everyone of his passing. We will provide information on the wake and burial soon,” the statement said.
