The model was shown to the public for the first time at an event that brought together brand managers and guests. The car represents the beginning of a new phase for the company, which will bear the name of the Audi Formula 1 team, and will enter the championship permanently after the complete acquisition of the Sauber car.
The takeover was completed in August 2024, when the automaker gained 100% control of Sauber Holding AG. Technical and strategic leadership will continue with former McLaren Team Principal Andreas Seidl, who will continue as CEO of the new team.

Before becoming an official Audi team, Sauber had a run marked by several name and identity changes. Founded by Peter Sauber, it made its Formula 1 debut in 1993 and was sold to BMW in 2005, changing its name to BMW Sauber F1 Team. After leaving the manufacturer in 2009, Peter Sauber regained control and the team returned to competing solely as the Sauber Formula 1 Team.
In 2018, the team entered into a commercial partnership with Alfa Romeo, adopting the name Alfa Romeo Racing – a naming rights agreement, without selling shares. The contract expired in 2023, and the team returned to the grid in 2024 as the Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber, with a new livery and visual identity. In 2025, Audi completed the purchase of 100% of Sauber Holding AG, paving the way to compete as an Audi F1 team from 2026.
