Beijing, December 15 (EFE). – China and Saudi Arabia have expressed their willingness to strengthen bilateral communication and coordination on “regional and international issues of common interest,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry reported this Monday after the meeting of foreign ministers of the two countries.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud this Sunday during his visit to the Arab country, where both discussed “strengthening bilateral cooperation in all areas,” said a statement from the Asian giant’s Foreign Ministry.
“Both sides emphasized that they will continue to support each other on issues affecting their respective core interests, implement a number of important initiatives by the leaders of both countries, and support friendly countries to achieve security, stability, development and prosperity,” the official text said.
During the meeting, Wang expressed China’s support for Saudi Arabia in “developing and strengthening” its ties with Iran, while praising the Saudi side’s leadership and efforts to “promote regional and international security and stability.”
Both foreign ministers also reiterated their support for efforts to achieve a “comprehensive and just solution” to the Palestinian issue based on the “two-state principle”, relevant UN resolutions and the “Arab Peace Initiative” with the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital based on the 1967 borders.
The Chinese diplomat also used his trip to Riyadh to meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman, who stressed his country’s intention to “further deepen cooperation with China in areas such as oil and gas, new energy, artificial intelligence and high technology,” a separate Chinese Foreign Ministry statement said.
These meetings came two days after Wang met his Emirati counterpart Abdullah bin Zayed in Abu Dhabi, where the Chinese diplomatic chief advocated “deepening” oil and gas cooperation with the United Arab Emirates.
Both meetings are part of the Chinese foreign minister’s official tour of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, where he traveled to discuss bilateral relations, the situation in the Middle East and “key issues of common interest” with his counterparts, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Beijing has stepped up its diplomatic work in the Middle East in recent years, acting as a mediator in agreements such as the restoration of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran in 2023 or the reconciliation between fourteen Palestinian factions, including the rival Hamas and Fatah, in 2024.
