Matchday 16 of La Liga left a bittersweet taste in the mouths of madridistas. Xabi Alonso’s team experienced a complicated match against Alavés at the Mendizorroza stadium, a victory that allowed the Tolosa coach to catch his breath but … did not avoid his discomfort with referee García Verdura for not having signaled an alleged penalty on Vinícius which would have given White greater peace of mind in the final stretch of the match.
Vitoria’s was controversial on both goals, as Alavés also claimed a possible penalty for Asencio pushing Toni Martínez. However, as in Vinícius’ game, the referee and the VAR judged that it was not necessary to go to eleven meters.
It was therefore a day with more successes than errors for the refereeing teamswho were also right with the disallowed goal against Osasuna in the match against Barça at the Spotify Camp Nou or at the Riyahd Metropolitano with the disallowed goal in Valencia for offside by Hugo Duro.
They were the most controversial pieces of the moment:
Atletico Madrid – Valencia
Minute 34: Goal disallowed against Valencia for offside. The referee was right as there had been an earlier illegal position by Hugo Duro after Nahuel Molina and Foulquier had headed the ball at the same time.
Minute 74: The visitors claimed a foul at 2-1 when Griezman finished and punched Foulquier in the face. It is true that the Frenchman lightly hits the Valencian but the touch is not enough to cancel the goal, ultimately considered valid.
Minute 87: Yellow card for Hugo Duro for demanding a warning from Marc Pubill. It was yellow for the defender, as he clearly grabbed the attacker’s arm, preventing him from reaching a through ball from a teammate. Error by the refereeing team. That would have been the second yellow. In no case would it be a direct red card for an obvious scoring opportunity, since the attacker did not have control of the ball and there were two opponents who could get into the action.
Barcelona – Osasuna
Minute 8: Rashford falls during his argument with a defender in the Osasuna area. Cordero Vega doesn’t whistle at all and does it well, as it’s more of a shift of the attacker onto the defender’s leg than a shift.
Minute 84: Goal disallowed against Osasuna due to a foul by Catena on goalkeeper Joan García. Well refereed, as Catena collides with a defender and unintentionally brings down the goalkeeper as he tries to recover the ball.
Alavés – Real Madrid
Minute 27: Goal denied to Jude Bellingham by the Englishman. The referee is right. Although the touch is accidental, since it is made by the same player who scores the goal, it must be canceled in any case. The white midfielder readily accepts the referee’s explanations.
Minute 73: Passes from the wing for Toni Martínez to try and finish and when Asencio does it bothers him just enough to get his arm into it a bit. Touching does not amount to pushing and that is why it is not punished. Referee success. The attacker doesn’t protest either.
Minute 86: Vinícius is located in the Alavés area and the Brazilian claims that there was a trip. The referee García Verdura does not sanction him and is right. This is an extremely light touch and you are right not to penalize the action as it does not result in a knockdown. Likewise, it is not a yellow card for the Madrid player as the home team claims, because since there is a throw-in, he should not be subject to a warning.
