A serious accident in Colombia left at least 17 dead and 20 others injured after a school bus fell off a cliff in the Antioquia region. The vehicle on Sunday carried children, teenagers and adults who were returning from Tolú, a city in the Colombian Caribbean, after a graduation trip organized by the Liceo Antioqueño students themselves.

The accident occurred around 5:40 a.m. this Sunday, on the road that connects Remedios to Zaragoza, in the area known as El Chispero. According to initial reports, the bus overturned and fell approximately 80 meters into a ravine. The causes are still under investigation by local authorities.
In a publication in X, the governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián, confirmed that the group was heading to Medellín after days of partying on the beach. “This is very difficult news for the entire community in December,” he said.
Among the victims was the driver of the vehicle, Johnatan Taborda Cocacolo, an employee of the tourist transport company Precultur. Members of the Antioquia tourism network mourned his death and expressed solidarity with his family and professional colleagues.
The injured, aged 16 to 27, were distributed between the health units of Segovia and Remedios. Sixteen of them were admitted to San Vicente de Paul Hospital, including four adults and twelve adolescents. Segovia Mayor Edwin Castañeda said rescue teams remained on scene throughout the morning to help treat and evacuate victims.
Liceo Antioqueño released a statement on its social media emphasizing that the trip was not part of the school’s official activities. “We deeply regret what happened to our students and their families. To the 2025 graduates who participated in the trip, we sympathize at this moment of great sadness,” said the institution, which also adopted a black ribbon on the profile as a sign of mourning.
