Aragon will officially go to the elections on February 8. President Jorge Azcón dissolved the Cortes this Monday due to the impossibility of reaching a budget agreement with Vox.
This will be the first time that the Community goes to the polls early, ending two and a half years of legislature marked by the persistent disagreements between former partners.
The decree of dissolution was approved this morning in an extraordinary Government Council and will be published tomorrow Tuesday in the Official Journal of Aragon (BOA).
For weeks, PP and Vox have been trying to reach an agreement that would give the Community the stability it needs to reach 2027. Azcón even presented a project “historic” of 9.145 million euros with increases of between 7% and 9% in key ministries such as Education or Health, but those of Abascal remain faithful to their positions, demanding a commitment like that of Pérez Llorca in Valencia against illegal immigration and the European Green Deal.
So much so that during the series of contacts, Vox spokesperson Alejandro Nolasco ended up saying that Azcón sometimes looked like “a president of Podemos.” The government’s response was not far off, with Treasury Minister Roberto Bermúdez de Castro constantly reiterating that what his interlocutor was asking It was impossible, if not downright illegal.
Azcón himself began his intervention by emphasizing that this budget was what Aragon needed, because not only did it contain record investments, but it also made it possible to continue lowering taxes and reducing debt.
“But the opposition does not appreciate the good time that the Community is experiencing she is also not willing to commit“, he lamented.
During last week’s series of contacts He only managed to add the PAR vote. This, the conservative leader stressed, is where the “real desire” of the parties to approve the budget is manifested.
Azcón accused parties like the PSOE of inventing “strange excuses” to overthrow him “not now, but later”. “We, the Aragonese, are neither deceived nor naive. The Aragonese deserve much more than all this. Without a budget, you cannot improve your life. Being in government without a budget is not governing.” he emphasized, inviting Pedro Sánchez to follow the same path.
Therefore, calling elections was “the most sensible thing” and doing it alone would “put Aragon at the center of the debate”, “good news”, according to Azcón, for the future of the Community.
The Aragonese president himself will contact us this afternoon with the Royal House to convey your decision. He will also speak to Sánchez and Feijóo.
Aragon, key territory
Aragon will play a key role in the “cascading elections” designed by the PP of Alberto Núñez Feijóo to exhaust the government of Pedro Sánchez and distance it from La Moncloa.
The first stage will take place this Sunday with the elections in Extremadura, Aragon will be in second position and then they will come Castile and León and Andalusia.
In the Community, the electoral campaign will officially begin on Friday January 23. Until then, the PP will be able to govern normally, but once 8-F arrives, it will be in power, which will force it to limit itself to ordinary management, without the possibility of incurring new expenses that do not appear in the budget.
Azcón will arrive at the polls with the polls in his favor. The latest EL ESPAÑOL DE ARAGÓN survey, published this month, gives the PP between 30 and 31 deputies and the possibility of choosing a partner between Vox and Aragon-Teruel.
If this result is obtained, the Aragonese baron would be one of the few leaders of the PP who could govern without depending on those of Santiago Abascal, granting the wishes of Genoa.
Left movements
The dissolution of the Cortes will force the left to take a step. Here all eyes are on the general secretary of the PSOE-Aragon, Pilar Alegría, who could live his last Council of Ministers as spokesperson this Tuesday.
It is expected that he will also leave the Education portfolio focus on the Aragon campaign. She will be the first minister to stand for election since the scandals of Koldo, Ábalos, Santos Cerdán and Leire Díez, and the polls do not bode well.
So much so that the PSOE could stay with between 17 and 18 places in Aragon compared to the current 23.
The early call will also make the left of the PSOE must decide in record time how he presents himself in the elections. Running separately would increase the risk of one party being excluded, although given the poor relations between Podemos and Sumar at the national level, alliances seem, once again, unlikely.
The CHA will have to decide whether José Luis Soro is a candidate again – which is unlikely, which is why we have been talking about MP Jorge Pueyo for months -, while Podemos will have to look for a new face after having elected, a few weeks ago, Ricard Mitjana as new regional leader.
The same thing will happen in UI. Here it is certain that Álvaro Sanz will not return to the Cortes and that the responsibility could fall on the new coordinator, Marta Abengochea.
