Rio de Janeiro will adopt an optional point this Wednesday 17, a day marked by decisions involving Flamengo and Vasco. The measure was initially announced by the mayor of the capital, Eduardo Paes (PSD), then confirmed by Governor Cláudio Castro (PL), and it will come into force from midday throughout the state.
At 2 p.m., Flamengo takes the field against Paris Saint-Germain, in Qatar, in the final of the Intercontinental World Cup. Vasco will face Corinthians at 9:30 p.m., in São Paulo, in the first match of the Copa do Brasil final. Both matches will be broadcast on TV Globo.
In a relaxed tone, Eduardo Paes commented on the decision on social networks: “It’s a good thing that the mayor is a fan of Vasco and the governor is a fan of Flamengo.” He then confirmed the optional start at 12 p.m. and appealed to supporters: “Enjoy it, applaud a lot, but with responsibility and respect.”
According to the mayor, the details of the measure will be formalized in a decree, which will be published in the Official Journal of the Commune this Tuesday (16).
Cláudio Castro also used social networks to reinforce this announcement. “Wednesday is Flamengo and Vasco day, not Flamengo x Vasco! Mengão in the afternoon and Vasco in the evening! We have already lined up the optional point from noon throughout the RJ,” the governor wrote.
It’s a good thing that the mayor is from Vasco and the governor @claudiocastroRJ He’s a Flamengo fan!
There you have it: Wednesday has an optional starting point from noon.
Enjoy it, applaud a lot, but with responsibility and respect.
Have a good week and good games! ⚽️🔥 💢💢💢💢💢💢💢
