In a letter to which GLOBO had access, the department requests resources to install the unit in São Paulo, taking into account the power outages recently recorded in the state, which “highlight the weaknesses of the current inspection and control capacity of distributors”.
The document sent last Friday was addressed to the Budget Execution Council (JEO), composed of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Planning and Budget (MPO) and the Ministry of Management and Innovation (MGI). The request was signed by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, and the general director of Aneel, Sandoval Feitosa.
“Such a situation requires the immediate strengthening of the institutional presence of the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL), in order to ensure faster responses, more effective control and greater consumer protection,” explains the letter.
According to the government, the installation of an Aneel unit in São Paulo is “fundamental to expand the scope of regulatory action, improve supervision and mitigate risks to the continuity and reliability of electricity supply” in the state.
