Remember the case
The attack occurred on the afternoon of December 7. The confusion began during a soccer match between João Miguel and the teenage suspect.
Later, while João Miguel was playing in the street with his cousins, in Planaltina de Goiás, the teenager approached the group. In anger, he ordered João to climb down from a mango tree into a vacant lot. As soon as the boy put his feet on the ground, the attacker moved forward and stabbed him several times with a knife. João suffered deep injuries to his neck, back and lungs.
Although he was seriously injured, the boy managed to call for help. Bloodied, he staggered home and called his mother. In the street, he found her returning from the market. João fell into her arms and only managed to say that he was “very cold” – the effect of intense blood loss – before passing out.
According to the boy’s older brother, Gean Lucas, 23, the mother tried to stop the bleeding with a cloth and asked a passing driver for help.
The boy was first taken to the Emergency Care Unit (UPA) of Planaltina de Goiás, but, due to the severity of his injuries, he had to be transferred to the Sobradinho Regional Hospital (HRS). In hospital, João underwent nearly five hours of surgery to contain severe bleeding and even required blood transfusions.
The teenager who attacked João Miguel has already been identified by police, but until this report was last updated, he was still at large.
