The President of the Junta de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, and the Mayor of León, José Antonio Diez, signed this Monday a protocol for the improvement and maintenance of public early childhood and primary education schools in the city. HE … This is an action that is the responsibility of local companies and which has generated many problems in some municipalities which are forced to assume, for example, high costs for heating or electricity, which has become a recurring problem because local administrations demand that regional authorities collaborate for this purpose.
With yesterday’s signing, León becomes the first municipal council to obtain the collaboration of the board of directorsan agreement which will have an initial duration of four years, will have a budget of two million euros per year contributed fifty percent between the two administrations.
In this sense, Mañueco emphasized that it is a “unique and pioneering agreement in Castile and León”, which It will benefit some 4,500 students from 19 educational centersthat they will thus have “the best education in the best spaces”. “The León City Council and the Government of Castilla y León have decided that the best way is to act in a coordinated manner to improve the city’s public preschool and primary centers,” he assured. The Council’s intention is that “this becomes the beginning of a lifelong vocation of collaboration”, with the aim of students having “the best education in the best spaces”.
The mayor of León, José Antonio Diez, recalled that in 2019 he had in his possession the first report on the needs of the city’s schools, with “an almost endless list of essential works to teach in the best conditions in schools, in most cases more than half a century old and presenting significant gaps”, reports Ical.
It is for this reason that the Consistory “has undertaken important improvement work in which more than 2.5 million euros have been invested” in which “many controversies have arisen” and which “ends today with the signing of the protocol for the improvement of public schools” which is based on “the common interest of the two administrations in the reform and maintenance of schools”, which makes it “necessary to collaborate in the economic effort for the benefit of the educational community”.
Thus, in order to improve educational infrastructures, this framework of permanent cooperation in this matter has been created through which the Junta de Castilla y León will spend one million euros annually for a program of works to reform and improve public schools, carrying out the necessary interventions, while the City Council of León will carry out the corresponding maintenance actions.
