United States President Donald Trump has signed an executive order classifying fentanyl as a “weapon of mass destruction”, intensifying his government’s campaign against drug cartels in Latin America.
“We formally classify fentanyl as a weapon … of mass destruction,” Trump said as he signed an executive order.
“No bomb does what this substance does: between 200,000 and 300,000 people die every year, as far as we know,” he added during the signing, organized during an event at the White House to present medals for the defense of the border between the United States and Mexico.
