A woman and her daughter were involved in a freak road accident in La Ciotat, southern France, when the car they were traveling in broke down submerged at the bottom of a municipal swimming pool where there were several bathers.
Accordingly La PresseThe incident occurred last Thursday around 8:50 p.m. The car, a Jaguar XF luxury sedan, lost control, crashed through the parking lot fence and shattered the building’s glass before sinking.
Although the mother and daughter were rescued without serious injuries, they were taken to a local hospital for evaluation. Although no beachgoers were directly hit by the vehicle, one was injured by broken glass in the incident.

The lifeguard Julien D’Asta Pasettiwho was on his usual shift that evening, explained in an interview with the French television station TF1: “The car hit the embankment. It went through the glass wall at an unimaginable speed. It jumped over the two-lane lines.”
He added: “A young swimmer and I were fumbling our way. I tried to get the girl out but she was tied up. We finally managed to get her to the surface. The most important thing is that neither she nor her mother inhaled any water.”
According to the same media, the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugsbut she was not used to driving a vehicle with an automatic transmission and therefore confused the forward and reverse gears.
After the accident, authorities secured the location and city officials removed the vehicle. Due to significant damage, the pool will be closed for the next few weeks.
