The state scholarship system continues to be one of the main instruments of Spanish government guarantee access to education under equal conditions. During the 2025-2026 academic year, Valencian students will again opt for the so-called MEC scholarships, managed by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Trainingaccording to information published on the official portal of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.
These scholarships are intended to alleviate the financial burden of university tuition fees, out-of-home residence fees, academic materials and maintenance during classes. Its granting depends on a combination of economic and academic criteria applied homogeneously throughout the national territory.
From this course, Education has confirmed that the total amount that a Valencian student can receive, adding up all the concepts, can reach 4,500 euros. However, this amount is not automatic and is conditional on compliance with a series of very specific requirements.
How is financial aid structured for the 2025-2026 academic year?
The stock market is divided into two large blocks: one fixed part and a variable part. The sum of the two determines the final amount each beneficiary receives.
The fixed amount and your first payment
In the first phase, students who submitted their application within the official deadlines begin to receive the resolution of the fixed part from December. This first phase is essential, because it allows many families to have liquidity before the end of the first quarter.
The lump sum can reach up to 1,700 euros and it fundamentally depends on the level of family income. For its calculation, the Ministry establishes three economic thresholds which determine the student’s rights.
The income thresholds that make the difference
The threshold system is one of the most determining elements in the awarding of MEC scholarships. Each of them provides access to different help concepts.
- Threshold 1: entitles you to a tuition grant, a fixed amount linked to income, residence assistance if applicable and a variable portion.
- Threshold 2: allows access to the tuition grant and a fixed amount, normally lower than the first threshold.
- Threshold 3: in most cases it only covers tuition fees and, if the academic conditions are met, the supplement par excellence.
Inclusion in one or the other threshold depends on family income and assets, as well as the number of members who make up the family unit.
Stay assistance, the key to reaching the maximum
One of the concepts with the greatest economic impact is residence assistance. This supplement is intended for students who are forced to travel away from their usual home to pursue their studies.
For the 2025-2026 academic year, Education maintains a maximum amount of 2,700 euros for this notion. This amount is added to the flat-rate amount of income and is decisive in getting closer to the overall aid ceiling.
The student must prove that he is residing away from home during the academic year and that this residence is necessary due to the lack of adequate training offers in his city of origin.
The variable part and its resolution timetable
Once the package phase is closed, the Ministry begins the calculation of the variable part. This section depends on both the student’s income and academic record.
Generally speaking, the variable part is between 600 and 1,500 euros. Its resolution is generally communicated later than the fixed part, with notifications beginning between the months of February and March.
In certain cases, these resolutions can be extended until April or May, always once the phase of allocation of the lump sum has ended.
When money is deposited into the account
After official notification of the grant, the actual payment of the aid is not immediate. According to the usual deadlines, revenues generally occur within approximately 45 days since the resolution is considered final.
This schedule is particularly relevant for Valencian students who rely on this aid to cover rent, transportation or basic expenses during classes.
Key support for higher education in the Valencian Community
MEC scholarships have been consolidated as an essential pillar for access to university and post-compulsory training. In the Valencian Community, where thousands of students study both inside and outside the region, this aid helps compensate for economic and territorial inequalities.
Education reminds us of the importance of carefully following official communications and reviewing application status through enabled channels. Furthermore, in the coming months, new calls or additional aid for students could be announced.
For the 2025-2026 academic year, confirmation of this aid in the amount of 4,500 euros once again places state scholarships as one of the main support mechanisms for Valencian students and their families.
