BRASÍLIA – President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said that the exemption from income tax (IR) for salaries up to R$5,000 is “the most sacred mark” of his third term. In an interview given to SBT News last Friday 12 and published this Monday 15, Lula also defended other projects under his administration, such as hunger reduction and the Agora Tem Especialistas program.
“There are many brands. The most sacred of all was the income tax exemption for people who earn up to R$5,000 in Brazil and also for those who earn up to R$7,300 who will benefit from a reduction and pay less,” Lula said.
“For the second time, we had already done it under the first mandate of Dilma (Roussef), and for the second time, we removed 33 million (people) from the hunger map recognized by the UN,” he added. Regarding Agora Tem Especialistas, he said the idea was to ensure that the poorest people have access to second and third consultations and diagnostics capable of anticipating serious illnesses.
He then declared that he was finishing the third year of government with “very important things”. “First, the lowest unemployment in the history of Brazil, the lowest inflation accumulated in four years in the history of Brazil, the largest wage bill in Brazil,” he listed.
The president also cited the exemption from electricity payment for those who consume up to 80 kilowatt hours (kWh) and for those who consume up to 120 kWh, in addition to the Gás do Povo program. “We will distribute free gas to more than 15 million families who are in CadÚnico, that is, people who cannot buy gas and who have to spend at least 10% of the minimum wage to buy gas will receive free gas paid for by the government.”
Lula also said he never worried about the research, “because I was sure of what I promised.” And he added: “We spent two years rebuilding this country and then we spent, you know, some time planting and next year will be, you know, the year of truth. We’re going to try to show the Brazilian people what happened in this country.”
He then said: “I have no doubt that Brazil has never had a president who implemented half of the social inclusion policy that we are implementing. This makes me very happy.” And he concluded by declaring that he would try to show the Brazilian people “what happened in this country”, comparing it with other governments.
