On Sunday afternoon (14), Fortaleza entered the Bezerrão field, facing Palmeiras, in the grand final of the Capital Sub-17 Super Cup, and emerged victorious 5-4 on penalties after drawing 0-0 in regulation time. The title is the first for former striker Fred, who spent time at Cruzeiro, Fluminense and Atlético, as a coach.
The decisive goal was scored by Vinicius Onibeni. Goalkeeper Carlos Arão shone on penalties and stopped a charge, essential to winning the cup. During the campaign, the Tricolor de Aço played seven matches, won five and drew two, becoming undefeated champions.
The former centre-forward took charge of Fortaleza’s under-18s in September. In fact, Tricolor do Pici is the first club where the former striker will work as a coach during his career.
In addition to his excellent CV as a top scorer, with stints at clubs like Fluminense, Cruzeiro and Atlético-MG, Fred has sought to learn off the pitch and has completed courses and specializations, such as the CBF Academy Coaching License A and B and is currently studying the UEFA License.
