Finance Minister Fernando Haddad is expected to leave the government by the end of February. Despite calls from PT leaders, he insisted he had no plans to run for elected office. His idea would be to coordinate Lula’s campaign for the presidency of the Republic.
FAREWELL TIME
In this position, he told his interlocutors, he could defend the government of which he is until now the central figure. Under his administration, the economy was considered the country’s biggest problem by 22% of Brazilians, a percentage that fell to 11% this month, according to a survey by the Datafolha institute.
FAREWELL 2
Haddad has already spoken to Lula about his departure and the president, according to PT members, would have accepted this possibility.
GOODBYE 3
Party leaders, however, say they prefer the minister to run for state government or the São Paulo Senate. They say it would be a shame for him not to run for office, as he is one of the best-known names in the party.
IN THE CENTER
At the party on Friday (12) of the Prerogativas group, of jurists and lawyers, in which he was one of the honored alongside Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) and Simone Tebet (MDB), Haddad was at the center of the conversations.
IN THE CENTER 2
MPs and PT leaders believe he could even be a vice-presidential candidate on a Lula-led list in 2026, with Alckmin running for the SP government and Tebet for the state Senate.
SILENCE
Some at the party even told Haddad he should run for vice president. The minister smiled during the dialogue.
SILENCE2
Asked by the press if he would run in the next elections, the minister did not respond.
IN STOCK
During the tribute, Alckmin received a pair of personalized socks as a gift from Prerogativas. Marco Aurélio de Carvalho said the vice president needs to keep his feet warm for next year’s elections because in 2022 he has “hot feet.”
