THE FCB published this Monday the basic table of the 38 laps of the Brazil 2026 and the Special Regulations for Competitions. Changes have been made official, such as the reduction in the number of places in the Libertadores and the limit of games for the transfers of athletes between participating clubs. The two new features had already been publicly commented on by the Technical Council of the competition.
The top four continue to have a direct place with the Libertadores. The fifth maintains its ranking for the preliminary round.
The sixth, however, is now heading towards the South American Championship and no longer towards the preliminary stages, as in previous editions. This place for sixth place now goes to the runner-up of the Copa do Brasil;
Initially, those ranked in the South American Championship range from sixth to eleventh place. This could change depending on the position of the Copa do Brasil finalists and a Brazilian title at the Libertadores.
The CBF also formalized the increase of an athlete’s playing limit until he can move from one club to another in the Brasileirão. In 2025, the limit was six games. From now on, there will be 12 matches.
Matches are counted from the time the player enters the field, as a starter or as a substitute. If the player leaves one club for another in the Brasileirão, he can no longer join a third team in the championship.
Each club can have five players who have previously played for other Brasileirão teams. A maximum of three athletes from the same club is established.
Brasileirão 2026 will have the first round on January 28 and 29. The current champion Flamengo will make his debut against São Paulo, at MorumBis. Palmeiras, who was runner-up in 2025, will start the championship against Atlético-MG, at the Arena MRV.
