Historic Sunday for CT athletes Lucas Sousa, from Campinas (SP), led by BEAT sports manager Antomi Ramos, Isabela Massaioli and Giovanni Nomelini.
Both players won two titles at the Beach Tennis World Cup held in Ribeirão Preto (SP).
Professionally, Spain were champions for the first time under the leadership of Antomi Ramos, beating Brazil in the final 2–1.
Antomi won his men’s doubles match with Alvaro Garcia Gonzalez 1/6 6/3 14/12, saving a match point. In the third and decisive match, Antomi Ramos and Ariadna Graell defeated Baran and Rafaella Miiller 6/3 6/1. Spain had already beaten the World Cup’s greatest champions, Italy, 2-1 in the semi-final on Saturday.
“Unbelievable, we can’t believe it, I just want to remember a story that happened to us. Carles Vicens has been working at the Spanish federation for seven years, the first day he arrived and met us, he met us in Barcelona, he talked to us saying he was there to improve our team, to make Beach progress in Spain and become world champions. At that moment Gerard and I looked at each other and said that was crazy. Winning the Cup of the World? And we have really built a team, we are always united on and off the field With us, our hearts in our hands and all the humility, the refrain of this tournament has been step by step, match by match.
The Brazilian professional team had Daniel Mola as a training athlete and also Vitória Marchezini who won her last match alongside Sophia Chow against Ariadna Graell and Daniela Perera by 6/3 6/2. In the youth team, Brazil was double champion beating Italy by 2 to 1. Isabela Massaioli won the first match alongside Beatriz Valério, beating Alicia Pepi and Elena Clacci by 6/1 6/3.
In the men’s category, Henrique Medeiros and Leonardo Neiva were beaten by Alex Agirelli and Giacomo Polino 6/0 6/3. In mixed, Valerio and Medeiros beat Pepi and Giulio Brunello by 6/3 6/4.
Giovanni Nomelini, also from CT Lucas Sousa, was part of the team to help with training.
