The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), has begun to adopt, in his latest speeches, a tone of pacification and criticism of the political polarization of the country.
Considered the preferred name of the Centrão and the financial market for the fight for the Presidency of the Republic in 2026, Tarcísio began to criticize the lack of dialogue between political opponents. The subject was part of the governor’s public speeches after the announcement of the pre-candidacy of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) at the Planalto Palace.
“You can disagree in the political area, there is no problem. It happens with the opposition in the Legislative Assembly. But you do not need to be an enemy. You have to build and sit at the table. Because Brazil’s challenges are great. Brazil has a fiscal crisis that is contracted. And it will burst. And how are we going to get out of it?”, declared Tarcísio, during an agenda at the Palácio dos Bandeirantes, this Monday (15/12).
“If we do not organize politics, we will not organize the country. It is fundamental and it requires leadership. But here in São Paulo, we have set an example,” he added.
Although Tarcísio remains a candidate for re-election in São Paulo, a position strengthened after the nomination of Flávio as candidate, the governor has not stopped mentioning national issues in his statements.
This position fuels the feeling among allies that the governor of São Paulo still remains an option to face President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in 2026.
To the interlocutors, Tarcísio said that he would support Flávio, thus strengthening his loyalty to former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), but that he should not act so directly in the campaign of his son 01. The governor also points out that other right-wing names are in the running and goes so far as to say that there is still time to “mature” for the viability of Flávio’s candidacy.

“It’s possible at the moment,” says Tarcísio about Dosimetry PL
In the midst of the growing tension between the powers in Brasilia, with the approval of the PL Dosimetry by the Chamber of Deputies and the tension between the Lula government and the Senate after the appointment of Jorge Messias to the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Tarcísio also began to emphasize the good relations between the Executive of São Paulo with the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo and with Justice.
According to the governor, the state has given Brazil “an example of harmony between powers.”
“Because here the executive, legislative and judicial powers walk together. They do not fight. There is no dispute, there is no such thing. On the contrary, everyone looks at the interest of the citizen. So we are giving an example of what institutionality is. People have forgotten what it is,” Tarcísio said in the same speech.
Dialogue with Lula and event with Moraes
Last Friday (12/12), Tarcísio was alongside Lula during the launching ceremony of the “SBT News” channel, at the channel’s headquarters in Osasco, in the São Paulo metropolitan area. In his brief speech, the governor of São Paulo also criticized the “strong polarization” in Brazil.
“A moment of fierce polarization, of emotional polarization, where people sometimes hate each other simply because they think differently. Right here in Brazil, the country of syncretism, the country of tolerance, it is time to change this key,” Tarcísio said.
The governor also said that “it’s time to turn the key.” “Yes, we can think differently. The debate will take place in the political domain. But we can build convergence. A project for the future,” he concluded.
Tarcísio’s speech conflicts with the tone adopted at other times this year, when he shouted “Fora PT” on the Avenida Paulista embankment and called STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the coup process that resulted in Bolsonaro’s arrest, a tyrant.
Moraes, in fact, was also present at the SBT event and saw part of his speech timidly applauded by Tarcísio, at the time when the magistrate praised Lula’s performance in the negotiations with the United States so that the government of Donald Trump could lift the sanctions against him and his wife.
Sharing the stage with Lula and Moraes, in addition to the image of the governor applauding the minister, sparked criticism of Tarcísio from bolsonaristas on social networks. The presence of the PT deputy and the minister at the event was also the target of attacks by Flávio Bolsonaro.
After the speeches, Tarcísio had a brief conversation with Lula, alongside the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB). The meeting had an air of diplomacy and cordiality. After the ceremony, Tarcísio greeted the president with a handshake and spoke with the PT member about the problems of restoring energy in the cities served by Enel, responsible for the concession that falls under the Union.
The governor, who demands federal intervention in the company, is expected to meet this Tuesday (12/16) with the Minister of Mines and Energy of the Lula government, Alexandre Silveira (PSD).
