The laws and regulatory texts – new and old – of the Ministry of Family and Equal Opportunities will be adapted for “easy reading” to guarantee “universal accessibility” to people with disabilities. This was announced yesterday by the vice-chairman of the board of directors and advisor to … Family and equal opportunities, Isabel Blanco, who explained that this work will be carried out thanks to an agreement with the Plena Inclusion Foundation.
The head of the family, who attended the presentation of the documentary ‘The impossible will be done’ in which three people from Castilla y León participated, indicated that the objective is to “advance” towards the “full integration” of people with intellectual disabilities. “We continue to work on the idea of satisfying the requests that they transmit to us and putting people with disabilities at the center so that they can participate more in the life of Castilla y León.”
“Easy reading” is a method that includes a set of guidelines and recommendations related to the writing of texts and the design and layout of documents in order to make information accessible to people with comprehension difficulties, such as people with intellectual disabilities, as detailed by the ministry in a press release. In this modality, the validation of intelligibility by the people themselves is “very important”, the subject of these measures, they added.
Furthermore, the right to accessibility to information and communication technologies for people with disabilities, through appropriate support – including easy reading – is enshrined in the autonomous law on equal opportunities for people with disabilities, they recalled.
For her part, Isabel Blanco highlighted the work of Full Inclusion in the Community, with 37 entities and a total of 18,000 disabled users and their families. A representative from the association attended the presentation of the documentary in the Community yesterday. A film that shows how 38 artists with mental disabilities – three from Castilla y León – performed in a concert with the Carlos III Orchestra at the National Music Auditorium to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the Plena Inclusion group.
