
American actor Anthony Geary, an eight-time Emmy Award winner and widely popular for his portrayal of Luke Spencer in the series “General Hospital”, has died at the age of 78, media reported. TVInsider.
The actor died on December 14 as a result of complications of an operation scheduled three days before and her death was made public by her husband Claudio Gama.
“It was a shock for me, our families and our friends. For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my partner, my husband,” the actor’s partner said, according to TvInsider.
Born May 29, 1947, in Coalville, Utah, Geary grew up in a Mormon home with his father, who ran a construction company, and his mother, a homemaker.
While a student at the University of Utah, Geary’s talent caught the attention of Jack Albertson, known for his work on ‘Chico and the man‘, who attended a performance by the promising second-year student, explains the specialized media.
Albertson cast him in a touring theater production of ‘The subject was roses‘, a crucial moment that catapulted his professional career. Over the years, Geary would participate in more than 50 theatrical productionsmaintaining his dedication to theater alongside his work on the big screen.
In the late 1960s, Geary moved to Los Angeles, where he began building a solid career in television, appearing in popular series such as “The Partridge Family”, “The Mod Squad” and “All in the Family”.
His work eventually caught the attention of producer Gloria Monty, who cast him as Luke in “General Hospital‘ in 1978, a decision that would change his life and bring him great popularity. EFE
