Queen Sofia will have her own animal shelter, as revealed in images published exclusively in the magazine!Good morning! in which he appears in the facilities that will be deployed in the La Isla farm, in Arganda del Rey, a place that he already visited last April with the mayor of that town. The town hall of this Madrid city had already announced in July that the Reina Sofía Foundation had approved the construction of an animal protection center. “We say yes for the animals, we say yes for all Argandians and we say yes to continue growing,” his advisor, Alberto Escribano, said on social media.
The Foundation’s board of directors had requested at the time “the contribution of the endowment land on which to carry out the construction of the said Center, through an agreement provided for this purpose which allows the constitution of a surface right”, explained the council. “With the approval of the project and the yes from Arganda for the transfer of this municipal land, the procedures for the construction of an Animal Protection Center in Arganda capable of serving the entire south of the Community of Madrid are now beginning,” they added.
The love that Queen Sofia feels for the animal world is no secret, since she has always taken it upon herself to demonstrate it publicly. Without going any further, last Friday, coinciding with the publication of the annual Christmas greetings of the Emeritus Kings, he gave all his attention to his five dogs – two black cocker spaniels, two white miniature schnauzers and a little cuckoo -, who appear posing in front of a Christmas tree. “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,” it reads inside, along with a handwritten “2026” as well as their signatures. And although Juan Carlos left for Abu Dhabi, these dogs stayed with Doña Sofía in Spain.

Queen Sofia loves animals and over the years she has been involved in many activities in support of their rights. And although the palace has always had dogs, one of the favorite animals of the emeriti is undoubtedly the pandas since in 1978, during their official trip to China, the kings of the time received two specimens. Shao Shao and Chang Chang were entrusted to the Madrid Zoo, becoming the first pandas in the capital, and since then the Queen has taken an interest in them.
