New economic impetus for mobility in Madrid
The Community of Madrid has allocated an additional 1.4 million euros for the works of supervision, control and technical support linked to the construction of the Conde de Casal transport interchange. This contract, recently awarded, will have a completion time of 19 months and joins a global investment estimated at more than 40 million euros to complete the work, planned for the first half of 2027.
A key interchange to reorganize urban traffic
The project of Conde de Casal interchange It aims not only to concentrate the currently scattered urban and intercity bus stops in a single space, but also to improve connections between the metro and other modes of public transport. The infrastructure will have an approximate area of 3,000 square meters and will have 13 platforms, adapted to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility.
Improved connectivity
The work will consolidate the connection of metro line 6 with the future expansion of line 11, an axis whose construction is already underway. This connection between the lines will expand travel options for users from different areas of the city and facilitate transfers without the need for long journeys on foot.
Mobility plan during work
To minimize the impact on traffic and daily travel, the Regional Transport Consortium has designed a specific mobility plan which concerns several urban and interurban bus lines. This plan moves collectors and modifies routes as work progresses, while strengthening metro service on the most affected lines to guarantee the continuity of public transport.
Institutional response and project objective
This economic boost comes shortly after the interchange project was included in the Community of Madrid investment plan, alongside other major infrastructure works. The regional president defended that these actions aim to modernize the transport network, reduce travel times and offer sustainable alternatives to the use of private vehicles. The work is also co-financed by European funds within the FEDER 2021-2027 program, which reinforces its strategic nature.
Expected impact on the city
According to official estimates, more than 65,000 travelers per day will benefit from the improved connection between transport modes in Conde de Casal. Furthermore, the urbanization of the district will be reviewed to better integrate infrastructure into the urban fabric, with clearly defined priorities in favor of pedestrian mobility and public transport.
Deadlines and prospects
With a budget of almost two years of additional technical works and general execution planned until mid-2027, the Conde de Casal interchange appears to be one of the most significant projects of the last decade in terms of urban mobility in Madrid. Beyond its immediate impact, this infrastructure is expected to function as a key node to encourage the use of public transport and respond to urban growth in the years to come.
