The São Paulo Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPSP) charged security guard David Ferreira, 45, with triple homicide for the death of businessman Paulo Vinícius dos Santos, 35. The case occurred following an attack in a winery in the Guarulhos region, in the São Paulo metropolitan area, at the end of October.
According to the complaint, Ferreira attacked the victim and left her there without providing assistance. Santos was rescued a few hours later, but died a few days later from a cranial hemorrhage.
“Although he should have acted to avoid the most serious consequences, it is certain that the security guard did not act and dragged the victim’s body to a nearby parking lot, leaving the victim in a state of agony for more than an hour. During this period, he did not provide any assistance and even made fun of the client’s situation,” wrote prosecutor Rodrigo Merli Antunes.
Ferreira was charged with capital homicide for frivolous reasons, using cruel means and using an appeal that made it difficult for the victim to defend himself. Provisionally arrested, the security agent saw his detention transformed into preventive detention requested by the prosecution.
The prosecutor also requested further investigation to determine whether the vineyard owner and other employees were behind the attack. If their participation is proven, they may be denounced as participants in the crime. Otherwise, they could be held responsible for the lack of assistance aggravated by the consequences of the death, since they also did not provide assistance to the victim.
Security camera footage shows the moment Ferreira punches Paulo Vinícius, who falls between cars parked on the sidewalk in front of the winery. The attack happened around 2:36 a.m. on October 20.
Minutes later, Ferreira — with the help of another security guard — dragged the businessman’s body to a more secluded location and even placed a traffic cone next to the victim. Santos remained on the ground for about two hours, until he was rescued by friends who were passing by around 4:27 a.m. and called the fire department.
Security attacks businessman and moves victim to isolated location in Guarulhos, São Paulo
— I went to the parking lot to get my car and came across the victim lying on the ground with his head cut off. As I got closer, I saw that he was very weak and we decided to call the firefighters. At first I called the Samu, but they didn’t answer, so I called the firefighters – said singer Robson Alves, responsible for the rescue, in an interview with Bom Dia São Paulo, on TV Globo.
In an interview with Fantástico, the victim’s sister, Caroline Martins dos Santos, said that security agents removed her brother’s documents, which made it difficult to identify him at the time of assistance.
