The Minister of Educational Development and Vocational Training, Carmen Castillo, presented on Tuesday the second phase of the Mejora Tu Centro plan, which is endowed with 39.5 million euros coming entirely from the coffers of the Board of Directors. The money will be transferred directly to schools this year and it will be they, within the framework of their autonomy, who will decide what to invest it in, with actions that must be carried out no later than September 30 next year.
Of the nearly 40 million that will now be invested, 31.9 million can be allocated to improving the conditions of habitability, functionality and educational quality in institutes, school residences, special regime centers and first cycle nursery schools belonging to the Commission. This includes, for example, work in the access, fences, facades, painting, signage, roofs, adaptation of spaces, communications and sanitary installations or security measures. Work which, at the same time, will serve to “boost the local economy”, underlined the advisor.
The plan also provides for the acquisition of academic and educational equipment, with a budget of seven million euros, which will benefit elementary music conservatories, continuing education centers and sections, nursery and primary schools and specialized education centers. Finally, there will be a game of 600,000 euros for the renovation and purchase of musical instruments by professional and higher music conservatories.
Castillo recalled that last November the 54 million euros of the first phase of the Improve Your Center plan were transferred, specifically intended for air conditioning works, both with the installation of adiabatic systems and other passive measures.
