The governor of the Federal District (GDF), Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), sanctioned the law that guarantees the remission of the urban and territorial land tax (IPTU) and the exemption from the real estate transfer tax (ITBI), for clubs and recreational associations in the DF. The sanction was carried out during a meeting this Tuesday (16/12), at the governor’s office.
Ibaneis said that this action reinforces the commitment to these entities which, according to him, play a fundamental role in promoting sport, leisure and the quality of life of the inhabitants of Brasilia. He said it was impossible to maintain these places without government support.
“It is not possible to support clubs without support, only with contributions. I was president of a club during the OAB/DF period and I personally felt what it was like to manage these entities. This support is therefore essential for these associations to maintain their work with the population.”
This initiative is part of the GDF’s tax relief policy, which aims to reduce burdens on the legal security and financial viability of non-profit institutions. The president of the Federal District Development Agency (Terracap), Izídio Santos, defended that this measure is a means of survival for the clubs of Brasilia which “naturally need support”.
“With this, they can act, undertake and improve the club. It’s one less expense for them,” Izídio defended.
The remission and exemption of these taxes also aims to guarantee the continuity of activities in these places and to preserve spaces for social interactions and sporting practices.
