Some rainfall and the drop in temperature were crucial for the brigade members to contain the various fire outbreaks that originated in the El Turbio area, northwest of Chubut, destroying almost 3,000 hectares of native forest.
A change in weather conditions favored the work in the last hours, although the alert remains in force a few days before the start of the summer season, as it is a region prone to this type of episodes, whether accidental or intentional.
In this sense, the head of the provincial fire protection system, Rubén Jaramillo, pointed out that “at the moment there is a relatively calm day regarding the fire. The rain has significantly reduced the temperature in the affected area, so observations are being carried out above all.”
“The fire is contained in some places and continues in the same manner,” the official told FM del Viento radio. Although the outlook is encouraging, Jaramillo warned that we should not let up: “It is calm now, but we cannot relax. In the mountain range we must always be vigilant because there has been almost no rain and everything is very dry.”
“People who want to enjoy our natural environment must take precautions, respect the regulations of each place and educate themselves about the use of fire,” he concluded.
In turn, the Forestry Secretariat, through the Provincial Fire Protection Service, highlighted the progress made in combating the fire incident registered on December 1 in the “Loma de la Chancha” sector, which had caused concern among residents and authorities.
