The institution identified as responsible for the alleged abuse of a two-year-old autistic child does not have authorization to operate as a daycare, although it presents itself that way, according to the town hall of São José dos Campos, a city located 437 km from São Paulo, where the case occurred.
The episode circulated on social media last week, after a mother reported receiving contact from a former employee warning her that she had witnessed an episode of abuse, such as the child being isolated in an environment different from others.
The report was unable to locate the mother or the former employee.
According to a message circulating online, the mother received a first attempt at contact via a handwritten note sent by the employee. Then there were contacts via social networks.
The institution released a statement on social media saying the allegations were false.
“This is a clear attempt to distort reality, born in the context of a legal dispute, in which legal action was taken against the former owners, and which is currently ongoing,” says the note, which does not specify whether the former employee is one of the parties to the process.
“The daycare has always guided its actions by respect, attention and overall care of children, maintaining a safe, welcoming environment conducive to the child’s development. There has never been any practice of mistreatment and this assertion is completely unfounded.”
The institution said it was at the disposal of the authorities.
The municipal finance department of São José dos Campos said the establishment applied on November 17 for a license to carry out children’s entertainment and childcare activities, but the request was rejected.
On the 18th, the establishment was notified to attempt to register as an early childhood education activity (daycare). The deadline ends on the 22nd.
If the establishment does not comply at the end of the deadline, the town hall may warn, impose a fine and seal the property.
“The place is not registered as an early childhood school and is therefore not under the supervision of the department. To obtain an operating authorization, a private early childhood school must submit a formal request to the secretariat,” specifies the municipality.
