President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will chair the last ministerial meeting of 2025 this Wednesday. According to the ministers, one of the highlights of the meeting will be the departure of portfolio holders so that they can run in next year’s elections. There will be a change in about half of the ministries by April, the maximum deadline for disqualifying politicians from running for office.
The guideline already set in Planalto is that most replacements be the current executive secretaries.
The ministers will leave portfolios such as Civil Home (Rui Costa), Finance (Fernando Haddad), Cities (Jader Filho), Transport (Renan Filho), National Integration (Waldez Góes), Labor (Luiz Marinho), Social Security (Wolney Queiroz).
The president must also emphasize to his assistants the orientation so that the first three months of 2026, before the incompatibilities, are dedicated especially to the deliveries of the PT administration in all regions of Brazil.
By appointing the current number 2 of each ministry, Lula wants to avoid any disruption in the work of the departments which could harm the progress of projects and the delivery of work.
The meeting will take place at Granja do Torto, Brasilia, followed by a celebratory lunch. Lula will speak at the opening of the meeting. Speeches are also planned from the Vice President, Geraldo Alckmin, the Minister of Civil Home, Rui Costa and the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad.
