The Minister of the Supreme Federal Court, Dias Toffoli, ordered on Monday (15) the resumption of the investigation into the Banco Master affair. The decision comes just over ten days after Toffoli filed a complaint with the Supreme Court – a measure which, in practice, suspended the work of the federal police. It will be up to him to authorize further steps in the investigation.
The minister’s decisions attracted attention because the Master file arrived at his office on the day Toffoli traveled to Peru to attend the Libertadores final on a plane in which the lawyer of a Master director was also present. Toffoli has not commented on questions regarding a possible conflict of interest.
The investigations into Master also affected another STF minister, after the O Globo newspaper revealed that the office of Alexandre de Moraes’ wife, Viviane Barci de Moraes, had a contract with the bank that would bring in 129 million reais by early 2027. Neither the minister nor Viviane made any comments.
Café da Manhã (17) this Wednesday talks about the accusations against the STF regarding Banco Master. UOL columnist Thais Bilenky, host of the A Hora podcast, goes behind the scenes of these stories, explains what sparked the debate over ministers’ actions and explains how this is fueling discussions about a code of conduct for the court.
