The medical degree on the campus of the University of Zaragoza (Unizar) in Teruel It will open with 45 places next year, when the first two courses will be launched and implemented, as announced last November by the Acting President of the Government of Aragon … Jorge Azcón, and the rector of the academic institution, Rosa Bolea. Yesterday, during a visit to the Huesca Polytechnic Campus, the same protagonists, accompanied by the Minister of Employment, Science and Universities, Claudia Pérez, and the Mayor of Huesca, Lorena Orduna, announced the implementation of the pharmacy degree in the capital of Huesca starting from the 2027-2028 academic year.
Thus, as in Teruel, the first two courses of the diploma (1st and 2nd) will be implemented, based on the model of the Huesca campus. Until now, students from Teruel who wanted to study medicine had to go, for the most part, to Zaragoza. The same as those of the Pharmacy of the province of Upper Aragonese.

Here the pharmacy degree will be taught at the Higher Polytechnic School of Huesca and It will have around fifty places for new students. In the coming weeks, a Working Commission will be created at the University of Zaragoza with which the administrative process for obtaining the degree will begin.
This diploma will strengthen the offering of a campus which already has 3,000 students and 11 diplomas. “The promotion of a campus like that of Huesca stimulates social and economic development, creates jobs and fixed population by attracting brighter students and teachers to this city and province”, indicated the head of the regional Executive during a visit to the polytechnic school.
With the establishment of the Pharmacy, the Government of Aragon “responds to a very old request” from the Public University of Aragon, which did not have this diploma in its academic offer, and “satisfies a request from Huesca, which has been asking for the diploma for a long time”, declared the regional leader.
In addition, he highlighted that “one of the efforts of the Government of Aragon during this legislature has been to promote new degrees and expand new places in the degrees most requested by students.”
More precisely, over the last two years, 257 places have been created at the University of Zaragoza alone, including 100 new places in computer engineering, 60 in biomedical engineering, 40 in mathematics or 20 in medicine. Students who started the medical degree in the 2024-25 academic year will be able to complete it in its entirety without leaving Huesca, in the Old Children’s Residence, which continues its adaptation works to provide state-of-the-art facilities for students.

The rector of the University of Zaragoza said that this responded to an aspiration of the institution that “comes from afar”. “The first conversations began in May. This announcement is possible thanks to the synchronization and support of the Government of Aragon”, assumed Bolea.
