Estudiantes confirmed the serious injury that will keep Santiago Arzamendia off the field for much of 2026. He will also not be able to take part in the Copa Libertadores.
The attacking midfielder suffered problems in his left back midway through the game and had to be replaced by Joaquín Tobio Burgos in the 29th minute of the second half. Nardoni, for his part, didn’t even see the yellow card and continued playing.
As Pincharrata’s medical team confirmed, after the examinations “it was determined that Santiago Arzamendia suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament, the medial collateral ligament and the medial meniscus of his right leg.”
“A lot of strength and a speedy recovery! We await you back on the field, champion!” They encouraged him from the club. This will exclude him from local and international competitions for at least 8 months.

Arzamendia’s message
Arzamendia shared a message with Estudiantes fans this Monday after reaching number 15. “These are moments of happiness and sadness at the same time, but with a clear conscience that I gave it and that we as a group gave everything we deserve for this trophy,” began the athlete.
“From today I have to face a separate championship, the road will be long but I am confident that I will come back safe and happy. Thank you everyone for your encouraging messages. This will make me stronger,” he concluded.
When he left the pitch during the substitution, he had to do so with the assistance of medical staff. With a splint on his right leg, he even went to receive the medal and lift the Clausura tournament trophy.
