The Ministry of Culture created an interministerial working group to propose regulations to regulate Law No. 14,852 of May 3, 2024, known as the legal framework for the electronic games industry in Brazil.
According to a decree published this Wednesday (17) in the Official Journal of the Union (DOU), the working group is temporary for four months or until the completion of the works, if these occur within a shorter period, which can be extended for an equal period, if necessary. Once the work is completed, the group has three months to present a final report to the Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes.
Sanctioned by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in May last year, the legal framework for the Brazilian electronic games industry establishes rules for the manufacturing, importation, marketing, development of electronic games and their commercial use in Brazil.
The interministerial working group will be made up of representatives of the ministries of Culture, who will ensure coordination; Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (Mdic); Education (MEC); Health; of the Treasury; Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI); Justice and public safety and sports.
They will also be part of the group representing the National Cinema Agency (Ancine), the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), the Attorney General’s Office (AGU) and the Brazilian Association of Electronic Game Developers (Abragames).
The coordinator of the Interministerial Working Group may invite experts and representatives of the Ministry of Culture or other bodies and entities, public and private, to participate in its meetings, with the aim of contributing to proposals for appropriate regulations.
