The spokesperson for the Toledo government team, Juan Jose Alcalde, responded openly to recent statements by the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, who assured the Senate on Tuesday that the new headquarters of the Civil Guard of Toledo … It could be operational within a period of between 30 and 36 months. According to the mayor, these promises lack credibility and reflect a lack of respect for Civil Guard agents, who continue to live in precarious conditions within the current command.
“It’s like the story of the wolf. Mr. Marlaska has been repeating the same thing for years, saying it has been his top priority since 2018, but here we are, seven years later, without concrete progress,” lamented the mayor. “The Civil Guards of Toledo and their families deserve respect. These empty promises only prolong an already unbearable wait.”
The spokesperson also criticized the socialist government for repeated apologies and changes to the project’s location, citing the lack of viability of sites such as Vega Baja and La Peraledadue to archaeological remains and the risk of flooding. “We knew from the start that these places were not suitable, but the Socialist Party did nothing to find a solution. “This barracks was never a priority for them,” the mayor said.
For her part, vice-mayor Inés Cañizares also showed her skepticism this Wednesday about the deadlines announced by Marlaska. “A project takes 30 months, but of course, for that you have to start it. And the problem is that we don’t know when the work will begin,” Cañizares emphasized. “The PSOE has repeatedly announced budgetary appropriations for this barracks, but so far we have not seen anything. I don’t believe anything that either the minister or the PSOE say.«
