The Municipal Socialist Group published a new declaration in which he clarifies the statements made on Wednesday about the actions of the local police in Concilios Street during the People’s Party Christmas lunch. The PSOE wanted to clarify that, … At no time did he accuse the mayor of Toledo, Carlos Velázquez, of acting inappropriately, but, according to his version, he simply relayed the complaints of residents of the area.
In the statement, the PSOE explains that the complaints received from residents were not only forwarded to the mayor, but also included evidence confirming that several residents repeatedly tried to contact the local police to request help due to the obstruction of the roads and the invasion of irregularly parked vehicles. “According to the information that these neighbors provided us as evidence, these people claimed to have called the local police several times and, at all times, they did not receive the assistance requested, leaving them without the help they requested given the situation they were experiencing.”
The PSOE insists that it is not directly accusing anyone, but is simply asking for “transparency” and a detailed explanation from the mayor and the competent authorities as to why they did not intervene to regulate traffic and guarantee security in the area, as the group itself points out. The political party indicates that its intention is to offer clear answers to the neighbors affected by this situation, who, according to its version, found themselves without protection due to “inaction” which prevented them from circulating normally in their streets.
In its statement, the PSOE assures that it does not doubt the “neutrality and political impartiality” of local police officers, and that the request for explanations is based solely on the complaints and testimonies of the citizens concerned. In this way, the group reiterates that the lack of response from agents is not linked to political or partisan action, but rather to a matter of management and coordination in which, according to the PSOE, it is necessary for the mayor to provide more clarity.
However, the first press release was titled “The PSOE accuses the mayor of using the local police at will and demands explanations for what happened at the PP’s Christmas lunch.” It specifies, among other things, that “the mayor must justify and clarify why the local police, despite calls and complaints from residents of the area, did not intervene last Sunday to restore order and respect the rules in Concilios Street, which was invaded by vehicles of participants in the Popular Party’s Christmas lunch. street, when neighbors called to request their presence, because hundreds of participants in the People’s Party Christmas meal attacked the sidewalks, obstructing common passages, entrances, exits and roundabouts by parking their vehicles in areas prohibited for the event.
For his part, the municipal spokesperson, Juan José Alcalde, announced this Wednesday that the Toledo City Council will take legal action “after the serious complaints publicly filed by the Municipal Socialist Group, so that its accusations are clarified and justified in court.”
According to the spokesperson, this is a “very serious” complaint which must be treated with the greatest seriousness and responsibility. This is why the Municipal Council “considers it necessary for each of the socialist councilors to appear before the judicial authority to confirm, justify or account for the statements made.”
