This Wednesday 17, the Federal Police requested more time to submit to the Supreme Federal Court (STF) the results of the medical examination on the state of health of General Augusto Heleno, imprisoned at the Planalto military command, in Brasilia, to serve a 21-year prison sentence as part of the putschist process.
The examinations took place last Friday the 12th, but the experts asked for more time to analyze the documents presented the day before by the defense.
“Due to the complexity of the new elements added to the file, it was requested to extend the deadline for submitting the final expertise until December 26, 2025,” indicates the letter signed by delegate Fábio Fajngold.
After his arrest, Augusto Heleno revealed that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2018. He claims to have discovered the disease while investigating episodes of memory loss. The defense added reports to the case to request that the general be placed under house arrest.
This diagnosis did not prevent him from taking over as Minister of the Institutional Security Cabinet (GSI) in the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022).
The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) accepted the house arrest. The body took into account Augusto Heleno’s age – the former minister is 78 – and the health problems he claims to suffer from.
Minister Alexandre de Moraes ordered the expertise after identifying “contradictory information” presented by Heleno and the general’s defense.
