The Legislative Assembly (Alesp) approved, in an extraordinary session, this Wednesday (12/17), the project that exempts motorcycles with a maximum engine capacity of 180 from the IPVA (Motor Vehicle Ownership Tax) in São Paulo. The proposal will be valid for the 2026 financial year.

The text was sent by the government to Alesp last week and provides that the advantage only applies to vehicles with regular registration and license status.
“The use of motorcycles is a reality in large cities, mainly because they are more accessible and agile vehicles in traffic, guaranteeing greater personal mobility. Exempting the IPVA from these vehicles will avoid disproportionately overburdening those who depend on them most, often used, in an entrepreneurial way, as a tool for generating work and income”, explains the Executive, justifying the proposal.
The same project cancels 2021 IPVA debts for a vehicle belonging to people with severe or profound physical, visual, mental disabilities and autistic people. The measure covers those who obtained an administrative request for exemption that year, albeit precariously. According to the government, the measure recognizes the “good faith of beneficiaries who, following subsequent court decisions, have been subject to recovery”.
