The government of Claudia Sheinbaum presented the 2025 results of Finabien Paisano, the financial service that works using a card to send funds from the United States to Mexico. According to Rocío Mejía Flores, director of Financiera para el Bienestar, the program channeled more than $28.9 million in remittances and issued a total of 91,380 cards through Mexican consulates. It is expected that by December 31, this number will reach 100,000.
During Thursday’s morning conference, authorities celebrated that the Finabien card has been positioned for weeks as the best option for sending funds through the Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office (Profeco), because it offers the lowest commission, at $2.99, and the best exchange rate. Additionally, cardholders receive a refund of the 1% tax on remittances, approved months ago by Donald Trump’s administration. “Our task is to guarantee that your remittance arrives complete, arrives in a safe, accessible and fair way to those who need it most, eliminating intermediaries who make the shipment more expensive, without conditioning its use on purchases in its stores and avoiding abusive commissions,” Mejía said.
How to apply for the Finabien card
Registration can be done via the websites gob.mx/finabien/ or cardfinabien.com/us, where some personal information will be requested such as email, mobile phone number and an address in the United States. You can also complete the process for free at one of the 53 Mexican consulates in the neighboring country.
Who can register
The service is aimed at Mexicans abroad and, to register, it is necessary to present one of the following identification documents: consular registration, Mexican or American passport, voting document (INE) or driver’s license, whether issued in Mexico or the United States.
What are the advantages
The program allows cardholders to send their funds to stores such as Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, 7-eleven, Dollar Tree, Safeway or KMart, or have their employers directly deposit their pay into the account. The maximum amount to send per month is $400. Family members will receive transactions immediately, through their Finabien México card.
The government also announced that migrants with the Finabien card will be able to contribute to their social security, provided they register in the United States as self-employed. The new option will be enabled in the app. In addition, the possibility of taking out repatriation insurance for $20 per year has been included.
