Lula announces the departure of Sabino and União names a replacement
The former minister, Celso Sabino, was not present at the meeting, but, according to Planalto, the president recorded a video praising his work during the meeting.
After the meeting, Lula, Motta, Gustavo, Damião, Gleisi and Juscelino went down to the ground floor of the palace to visit a model of the São Francisco River transposition project. During the agenda, Lula and Motta interacted in a relaxed atmosphere, after weeks of tension between the executive and legislative branches.
At the end of his commitment, Lula described Gustavo Feliciano as a “minister”.
Sabino’s departure
Lula announced the departure of Celso Sabino from the Tourism Command at the end of the ministerial meeting this Wednesday (17/12). União Brasil, the minister’s former party, called for his dismissal and nominated Gustavo Feliciano.
In December, União Brasil decided to expel Sabino after he contradicted the party’s decision to break with the government and stay in power.
At the time, Sabino even handed in his letter of resignation, but managed to keep the chair until the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which was held in Belém (PA), the minister’s political hometown.
Privately, the party denies making the application and nomination for the vacant position, claiming that Gustavo is not a member of the party. The party leadership rejects that the naming of the name is a party move, indicating that the agreement reached with the president has the support of only one wing of the party.
The change in command of the department was seen as a nod to Motta, who approved and praised the name. Feliciano was Secretary of Tourism and Economic Development of the Government of Paraíba.
