Rapper Wiz Khalifa has been sentenced to nine months in prison in Romania following an episode at a music festival in the country. The court’s decision refers to the consumption of marijuana on stage, an attitude considered a crime under Romanian law.
The episode took place on July 13, 2024, during the show Beach, Please! festival, held in Costinești, a coastal town popular with young people. During the performance, the artist smoked marijuana in front of the audience.

At the end of the show, he was approached by authorities, arrested and taken away to provide clarification. Police said the singer was carrying around 18 grams of drugs.
At first, the sanction applied was only a fine of 3,600 Romanian lei, the equivalent of approximately R$4,600 reais. Later, however, the court’s understanding changed and the sentence was increased.

According to the BBC, the judge in charge of the case considered that the rapper’s attitude “normalized illegal behavior” and contributed to encouraging drug use among young people.
Wiz Khalifa is not on Romanian territory at the moment. This week, the musician made an appearance at rapper Gunna’s concert in California. The Romanian authorities must formalize an extradition request to the United States, even if experts consulted by the BBC believe that the possibility of the artist’s arrest is remote.
Shortly after the episode, at the time, the rapper spoke out on social media. In an article on
