Vasco midfielder Mateus Carvalho has been diagnosed with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, in addition to injuries to his meniscus and collateral ligaments. The club have confirmed that the player will have to undergo surgery, with no date yet.
The injury occurred during the warm-up of the first leg of the Brazilian Cup final, against Corinthians, on Wednesday (17/12). During an activity, one of the athlete’s feet got stuck on the lawn, while the other kept moving. He left the field supported by the medical team, visibly shaken.

Even if he is not an absolute starter, Mateus Carvalho is considered an important piece in the team led by Fernando Diniz, especially in formations with greater defensive balance.
Hired by Vasco in 2023, the midfielder has played 143 matches, with three goals and two assists. In 2025, he played 62 matches: he started 11 times, came on in 28 and was not used on 23 occasions.
