The driving license is a mandatory and indispensable document for all drivers traveling on national roads and routes. After a change in the regulations, anyone who wants to renew their driving license must definitely submit the application theoretical exam to be able to travel by car.
Who has to take the theory test again?
Authorities in the city of Tres Arroyos, Buenos Aires province, reported important changes in the license renewal process. The secretary of the municipal area, Juan Apollonioexplained that from January 1, 2026, all drivers who renew their license will have to take a theory test.

María Paz López Peralta, Director of Administrative Coordination, emphasized that the test will consist of 30 random theoretical questions from a group of 120. To pass, 85% correct answers are required, i.e. 26 correct answers.
“If it is not passed in the first instance, the second questionnaire will be different,” said López Peralta. The study material will be available on the CRESTA campus (campus.cresta.edu.ar), a website where the entire bibliography will be available.
The new driving license renewal measure applies to both cars and motorcycles. In line with the regulations, the official explained that one of the pillars of management is to promote road safety education from an early age. “We started the campaigns in kindergartens and kindergartens through the street schools and then expanded them to primary and secondary schools,” he explained.

Up to what age can you drive a car in Argentina?
Although there is no age limit for driving in the country, license extensions are issued for shorter periods starting at age 65. Once you are over 70 years old, the procedure must be performed annually and its approval depends on physical and mental examinations.
The issuing deadlines are as follows:
- Under 21 years: Five years validity for categories A (motorcycles), B (cars) and G (agricultural machinery)
- Between 21 and 65 years: The license is valid for five years
- From 65 to 70 years: You have to renew it every three years
- Over 70 years: The renewal takes place annually without exception
