The new management of Grêmio began to plan differently for the next season and defined Luis Castro as the centerpiece of the sporting project. The management strategy consists of restoring the club to a position of leadership and competitiveness, with decisions taken immediately and aligned with the new football model.
But even before arriving in Porto Alegre, the Portuguese coach is already actively participating in the process. The work is divided between the activities of CT Luiz Carvalho and remote meetings, organized frequently, despite the time difference between Dubai and the capital of Rio Grande do Sul.
Luis Castro is expected to arrive in Porto Alegre on Sunday (21) to begin work in person. Indeed, the new board has already pushed through significant changes before the end of the year, at a pace that has surprised even members of the club itself.
New direction for French football
One of the examples was the technical change of command. Grêmio made the departure of Mano Menezes official on Tuesday (16) and, in just over three days, announced the signing of Luis Castro. This decision reinforces management’s desire to give a new direction to French football.
Since the agreement, the coach and his technical committee have intensified their analysis of the squad for 2026. The group evaluates individual characteristics, suitability for the playing model and reinforcement needs, in addition to possible tradable players, without imposing a fixed number of signatures.
Finally, planning for the start of the Campeonato Gaúcho remains under analysis. The new commission must evaluate whether to use grassroots youth, underutilized athletes or main team players, keeping talent development as a priority, one of the hallmarks of Luis Castro’s work.
