Widespread confusion between parents and teenagers marked the 3rd year secondary school graduation ceremony at a private school in Recife, celebrated in the early hours of Saturday (13/12), at the Classical Hall, in Olinda, in the Metropolitan Region. The episode went viral on social media after videos surfaced showing pushing, screaming, students crying and objects being thrown.

According to witnesses, the song Helicóptero, by DJ Guuga and MC Pierre, identified as the pivot of the confusion, had already been played twice before during the event, in versions performed by other artists, without causing disruption. The uproar did not begin until the third performance, when the song was played to a funk beat by the DJ responsible for the evening’s final performance.
According to a guest, around 4:40 a.m., the father of a student came on stage and approached DJ Vitor Bayma, holding his arm and complaining about the content of the lyrics, which he considered inappropriate for an event with minors. According to reports, the man appeared drunk and spoke aggressively to the artist. The witness claims that after the approach, the DJ interrupted the performance and that the reaction of the trainees to the stopping of the music would have intensified the tense atmosphere.
Videos circulating on social media show guests crowded between tables and chairs, young people trying to break up the fight, students crying and security guards intervening to contain the confusion. In one of the recordings, a woman also appears to protest the repertoire, claiming that her daughter was a minor and that the music was not suitable for teenagers.

The father’s version
After the repercussions of the case, the father involved published a long text on social networks in which he declared that his attitude was motivated by concerns about the content of the song and the presence of minors at the event. According to him, the lyrics support violence against women and the practice of crimes – which, in his opinion, cannot be normalized.
“I feel obliged, especially for my daughter, to provide clarification on the facts, and not on the repercussions which ended up eclipsing the objective of my intervention.”
In the report, the man said he tried to look for members of the organizing committee before going on stage, but many had already left. He also states that he did not try to end the party, but simply to demand a change in the repertoire, and that he was attacked by young people after the performance was interrupted, which caused confusion. The father acknowledges that he was wrong to act alone, but says he does not regret having taken a stand.
Femicide does not come from nowhere. It is the result of a culture built over time. Society, through the State and its institutions, has already decided to interrupt this cycle, but cultural change is a long process. (…) I believe I did what had to be done in the face of the daily tragedies that we see on the news. We live in a society marked by structural and cultural machismo. I remain convinced that I must not remain silent in the face of any attitude that contributes to the maintenance of this sexist culture.

Impacts on adolescence
The relationship between youth and music with attractive lyrics is complex and multifaceted. Psychologist Cibele Santos points out that, for some young women, listening to and dancing to these songs is a way of exploring their sexuality and asserting their freedom in a world that often tries to control them. However, what at first glance might be a breaking of taboos can be accompanied by social consequences.
“Although many funk lyrics are explicitly sexist, some young women may lack the critical thinking necessary to approach them in a thoughtful manner. The repetition of these messages in their daily lives can lead to the internalization of ideals that, although harmful, are considered normal. The promise of empowerment and autonomy in the lyrics can be seductive, even if paradoxically it contributes to the acceptance of content that degrades the image of women”, analyzes the professional.
The social context is also important for the analysis. The expert emphasizes that the social and cultural environment in which young people live also has a strong influence on their musical preferences.
“Funk is a reflection of the reality of its communities, addressing the daily problems and challenges that many of them face. In this way, the appreciation of this musical genre can be linked to the recognition and validation of their lived experiences, even when the lyrics are considered problematic,” he emphasizes.
By consuming music, children and adolescents acquire a repertoire
Education is essential so that young people can have fun, but in a conscious way. “It is important that society, including educators and young people themselves, promotes critical reflection on the messages that permeate culture and encourages the values of respect and equality,” emphasizes Cibele Santos.
The controversial music of confusion
Released in 2019, Helicopter describes a situation in which a woman is threatened with death if she refuses to have sex with two men inside a plane, from where they will throw her into the ocean. The lyrics are criticized for suggesting coercion and sexual violence. Despite the controversy, the song has accumulated over 66 million plays on Spotify. In 2023, the artists released Helicóptero 2, which has also been played millions of times.
The father involved claims that his attitude was motivated by concern about the presence of minors and by what he described as condoning violence against women, denying having acted with the intention of physically assaulting or generating widespread confusion.
“I ask everyone to think about the content of these lyrics. It is not about moralizing or swearing. The problem is the content which suggests that a woman, given no choice, could be threatened if she does not submit. This is not just music: it is the naturalization of violence.”
For psychologist Cibele Santos, awareness of gender and empowerment issues is essential to help these young women develop a more critical vision of what they consume culturally.
Organization of events
In a statement, the Colégio Madre de Deus informed that it did not participate in the organization of the party, which was the responsibility of the production company Super A Formaturas. The company has been contacted by the press, but has not taken a position on what happened. To date, there is no confirmation of a police report related to the widespread confusion.
