MADRID, December 19 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Donald Trump’s administration began releasing records relating to deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein this Friday, shortly before the expiration of a deadline set by the US Congress for the release of all remaining documents linked to the mogul, as part of a transparency law after years of legal battles.
The United States Department of Justice has created a section on its website called the “Epstein Library” which includes, among other things, court records and documents from the ministerial portfolio itself, including transcripts of the interrogations of Epstein’s former partner and accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell.
Several security camera videos were also published, a theft log composed of more than a hundred pages, a list of evidence, a contact book and a list of masseuses (more than 250), whose identities were hidden to protect the victims.
However, the Justice Department indicated that the portal “will be updated if additional documents are identified for release,” noting that in light of the congressional deadline, all reasonable efforts have been made to review and redact victims’ personal information and protect sensitive information from disclosure.
It also pointed out that some of the content includes descriptions of sexual assault, warning that “some sections of this library may not be suitable for all readers.”
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche had announced a few hours earlier in an interview with the American television channel Fox that, although they had started today by publishing “several hundred thousand documents”, he hoped that in the coming weeks “a few hundred thousand more” would be made public.
In September, Congress released a batch of Epstein-related files, which included more than 33,000 pages, that it had been given by the Justice Department in a transparency effort by the Trump administration, but the move did not work because most had already been made public before, generating pressure within its ranks for the release of more unpublished documents in the case.
Epstein was arrested in July 2019 for sexual abuse and trafficking of dozens of girls in the early 2000s. This millionaire, who at one point even rubbed shoulders with personalities like Prince Andrew of England – brother of Charles III -, Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, was discovered hanged in his cell.
