Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein’s ex-girlfriend, insinuated in a statement to Donald Trump administration prosecutors that the attacker had consensual relationships with victims of the sex trafficking for which she was convicted.
The interview, carried out in July by the Deputy Secretary of Justice of the United States, Todd Blanche, was made public this Friday (19) after the publication of part of the Epstein file. The disclosure was required by a law passed by the US Congress in November, and the deadline for the records to be made public was this Friday.
In his deposition, Maxwell states: “I’ve seen (Epstein) with a lot of masseuses. I’ve never seen any masseuse who seemed unhappy or who didn’t come back (to Epstein). So, from my observation, I don’t think that if you are raped, and if he was so prolific… I can’t imagine why you would come back.”
Throughout the interview, Maxwell attempts to justify his actions by calling them “1990s culture.” “There’s been a cultural shift, and I think that’s an important part of the analysis. I’m not trying to justify anything, I don’t want to make myself out to be poor, don’t get me wrong. But when these things (Epstein’s alleged crimes) were happening, even underage women were being targeted by the investigation and accused of prostitution and even trafficking,” Maxwell said. “So yes, I introduced him to women, but never to minors.”
The former British socialite continued: “Yes, I would look for masseuses, I would visit spas, and if someone told me they were a masseuse, I wouldn’t check their credentials. And if they were pretty, I would introduce them (to Epstein), yes.”
At another point in the interview, Maxwell and Blanche have a lengthy discussion about Epstein’s alleged erectile dysfunction. Speaking about their time together, the former socialite says, “He told me he had a heart problem and because of that he couldn’t have a lot of sex. That’s OK with me, because I have a problem that prevents me from having a lot of sex. But (Epstein) enjoyed other sexual activities,” like masturbation and oral sex, he said.
Next, Maxwell says Epstein used testosterone patches to, he said, combat erectile dysfunction. But then he says, “I think that was a lie and that he didn’t suffer from erectile dysfunction,” claiming that if the abuse stories are true, Epstein actually suffered from priapism, a medical condition that causes a constant erection for hours on end.
Maxwell repeatedly denied knowing that the girls he took to Epstein were underage. “I would never have allowed something like that,” he said, adding that he never saw Epstein having sex with the masseuses. “I don’t know what I would do. I can’t even imagine.”
At the same time, the former socialite claims that her attacker always pressured her to find new masseuses. “He always wanted new ones. He would get bored, he would get tired of a masseuse and he would say: find me another one.” Maxwell claims he was looking for masseuses at “legitimate spas.” “I never checked their qualifications or their ages. It never even occurred to me that they might be under 18.”
