The São Paulo court allowed Karen de Moura Tanaka Mori, known as “Japa do Crime,” to spend Christmas and New Year festivities with her family in Santos, on the São Paulo coast. She is the subject of an investigation for money laundering on behalf of the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC).
Karen was arrested in February 2024 with more than a million reais and $50,000, but her prison was changed to home prison in the name of her 13-year-old son. Subsequently, the arrest was revoked and precautionary measures were imposed, such as wearing an ankle bracelet. She lives in São Paulo.
The decision of the 2nd Court of Tax Offenses, Criminal Organization and Laundering of Property and Values of the Capital allows Karen to go to the coast and stay at her mother’s residence on December 20 and January 5, in Boqueirão, Santos.
Judge Tiago Ducatti Lino Machado, however, determined that all precautionary measures be followed, such as the use of an ankle bracelet and that Karen stay at her mother’s home at night, on weekends and on holidays.
Who is the “Japanese crime”?
The “criminal gang” was active in laundering the organization’s money, in cities like Santos, Cubatão and Guarujá, in Baixada Santista, as well as in the city of São Paulo, according to the civil police.
At first, she used beauty businesses, real estate, and a company owned by her brother to launder money for the faction.
The investigation began in June 2023. In this sense, the police claim that all the evidence collected points to it as responsible for laundering a large part of the criminal faction’s money in Baixada Santista.
